The 'Basic Hairdressing " course offered is a KICK START to your hairdressing career, paving the way for you to achieve your long term goals in the world of hairdressing. It involves theoretical and practical sessions, thereby covering all aspects of basic hairdressing. Our guaranteed low student teacher ratio will allow you to develop your skills comfortably in precision cut and colour. Our sole aim is to provide a clear and concise hairdressing training in an inspirational and professional salon environment. The curriculum is a combination of practical and theoretical skills that will be delivered to learners, who, on completion of the course can either become freelancers or work in a salon. Qualified educators will guide learners through the different stages of the course with the right balance of hands on workshops, theory work and live demonstrations. Manuals, styling tools, and equipment will be provided. A portfolio of all the learners work that will consist of practical assignments and photographic evidence will be built up throughout the course. Learners will be assessed on practical and theoretical areas by their educator throughout their course. Our low student teacher ratio will allow learners to develop their skills on a 1 to 1 level.

On completion of this course, students will be awarded with an internationally recognized qualification allowing them to work in salons anywhere in the world or freelance on private clients.

Course Description:

This course is designed to provide a faster route for those interested in becoming a hairdresser, without having to spend time for 2 or more years.

Requirements:

  1. Anyone aged 16 and above
  2. A good understanding of English
  3. An initial interview

The course includes the following units

Understanding health and safety policies and procedures

  • Ensuring that you understand and carry out health and safety procedures at all times

Develop and maintain effectiveness at work

  • Understand and identify your role and responsibilities
  • Develop professional working relationships with other team members
  • Be able to identify personal strengths and weaknesses
  • Achieve agreed objectives whilst working professionally as part of a team
  • Improve own performance at work by producing a self development plan with targets

Salon reception duties

  • Know how the salon operates, thereby understanding legal and salon requirements
  • Answering and responding to enquiries over the phone and walk-in clients
  • Understanding the costs of services offered and ensuring that information is effectively and correctly passed on to clients
  • Be able to take appointments and payments from clients

Set and dress hair

  • Understanding the factors that influence setting and dressing hair
  • Following health and safety procedures with regard to the service
  • Using the correct tools, products and equipment for the service intended

Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp

  • A clear understanding of health and safety policies and procedures that affect scalp treatment, shampooing and conditioning
  • Understanding the science of shampooing and conditioning
  • Using the correct products and techniques to carry out the service, ensuring that the client is safe and comfortable at all times

Consultation and advise with clients

  • Identifying and understanding the requirements of a client with regard to the service selected
  • Thoroughly examining the scalp, hair and skin to ensure that the hairdressing service can be carried out safely
  • Agreeing with the client to a course of action, to achieve desired results
  • Making sure the client understands and agrees to the cost and time of the service

Plait and twist hair

  • Get a clear understanding of the desired look by consulting with clients
  • Select suitable tools, equipment and products
  • Prepare for the service and apply hygienic and safe methods throughout the service
  • Be able to plait and twist hair whilst providing advice and recommendations on the service

Cut hair using basic techniques

  • Know and apply safety policies and procedures that affect the service
  • Secure the client's clothing using appropriate gowns
  • Understand the factors that influence the service and using the correct equipment and products for carrying out the service
  • Advising the client on after care and maintenance
  • Be able to cut hair using basic techniques to achieve styles such as one-length, layering, square cut, straight or graduated bob, fringes

Style and finish hair

  • A clear understanding of the science behind styling and finishing hair
  • Applying health and safety policies and procedures during and after styling and finishing services
  • Using appropriate styling products to suit hair type, whilst advising clients on the benefits of the products used
  • Style and finish hair to achieve desired look

Colour and lighten hair

  • Understanding the science of colouring hair
  • Effectively applying health and safety policies and procedures that may affect the colouring service
  • A good understanding of the factors that influence the service
  • Using appropriate products, tools and techniques to carry out the service
  • Ensuring that the client is safe and comfortable at all times during the service
  • Be able to colour and lighten hair to achieve the desired results

Course Description:

The NVQ2 Barbering course provides a faster route for anyone who is interested in becoming a men's hairdresser but does not have the time to study for 2 or more years.

Requirements:

  1. A good understanding of English is essential.
  2. Applicants may be asked to attend an interview prior to starting their course.

The course includes the following units

The course is a combination of theory work, demonstrations and hands on workshops, taught by qualified educators who will guide you through the stages of the course, thereby monitoring your personal progress. All necessary equipment, styling tools and manuals are provided.

Your training sessions on live models will enable you to build a portfolio of your work throughout the course which will consist of photographic evidence and practical assignments.

Your Assessor will assess you in both theory and practical areas throughout the course. You are encouraged to bring a camera to take photos of your work on live models which will help build your portfolio of evidence for assessment purposes. Our low student-teacher ratio will allow learners to develop their skill on a 1 to 1 level.

The VTCT NVQ Level 2 Diploma is an internationally recognised qualification and will be awarded to learners on successful completion of the course.
